“Parenting Your ADHD Child”
Anja is the Director of the Calm Kidz Program, working as a child counsellor in private practice since 2015. Her special interest is supporting children & their families with Anxiety, ADHD, Autism, and behavioural challenges. Anja is a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association and believes in providing age-appropriate brain education to help children manage their emotions through play. She has written a book for kids called Rusty McPaws, Turning Scary Feelings into Superpowers, and a Step-by-Step parent guide called “Perfectly Imperfect Parenting.”
Anja is trained in various evidence-based therapies and is a Provider of the Safe and Sound Protocol, an evidence-based music therapy developed by Dr Stephen Porges to re-wire children’s autonomic nervous systems, supporting emotion regulation. She is a Social Stencil facilitator and runs several social skills groups around Hobart.
Her personal experience with childhood anxiety and recent ADHD diagnosis drives Anja’s particular interest in helping children and parents navigate the challenges that come with it. She has 2 children, 11 and 13 years of age and lives in Hobart.
In this presentation, Anja will discuss: The brain explained: Why do we lose control of our emotions? L.O.V.E.D Model, Executive Functions explained using real-life situations & how to strengthen these, Strengths and weaknesses of each EF, Limits, Boundaries & Routines.
