‘Who’s your best friends?’ For many well meaning grandparents, aunties and uncles, this question roles off the tongue. For many neurodivergent young people, this question is a reminder that they are disappointing the people they care about and just not the same as others. Nope, not today! Realistically, there are 4 friendship styles. There always have been. Let’s talk about how to talk to our kids about friendships at school.
Dr Connie Buckingham (PhD) is a Psychologist and the Director of The Social Learning Studio, a multidisciplinary practice established to support children’s social and emotional development. Connie’s PhD research focused on theories that help us to understand social confidence, and how to support young people to develop and maintain positive peer relationships. Connie’s research underpins the programs at The Social Learning Studio including their pillar program, Social Stencil. Connie’s work supports neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals with an emphasis on theory and evidence-based work that is engaging and inspires curiosity and learning
