‘The ‘Hows and Whys’ of Self-Advocacy’

Emma-Rose Parsons is a psychologist who has worked with families for 20+ years. Emma-Rose has a particular interest in supporting ADHDers to feel confident and empowered through advocacy and understanding, at a personal, family, school and community level. Also the director of Spectrum House and the Co-Director of the Paediatric Health Collective, Emma-Rose splits her work time between in-clinic services, professional supervision, school consultations and speaking appointments.

Knowing that the community often have limited understanding of ADHD, it is vital that our children can effectively advocate for themselves.

Self-Advocacy can assist in improving wellbeing and a stronger sense of self. Emma-Rose will cover how to support your child to:

1) Understand their needs

2) Understand what support, help or adjustments may help them and

3) How to communicate this to those who can help.

As parents, carers and educators, we can actively support children’s self-advocacy skills, right from the start.
