The difficulty of getting a diagnosis for your child’s special needs

Depending where you live in the world will depend just how hard it is to get the help you need for your child.

I hear many awful stories from parents who’ve had to fight really hard to get their child diagnosed, so that they can access the correct help.

Please click in the poll below how long it took you to get a diagnosis for your child:

I now live in Melbourne, Australia. I moved here from the UK. If you read my previous article on Australia Vs UK, you may already know this.

But when I was in the UK it took me 5 years to get a partial diagnosis for my son. And it wasn’t until moving to Australia that we managed to get a full diagnosis within just months of living here.

That being said, I’ve heard from lots of parents living in other States in Australia who have found it much tougher to get a diagnosis.
It is this fight that parents have to go through just to access necessary help, that I want to help put an end to.

I really believe that children should be able to access the help they need and that the systems for diagnosing children should be fast and efficient.
